| ireland was sooo much fun! we stayed at this little cottage in the middle of some ancient town of monks and it was pretty sweet. we went to waterford and saw them make their world famous crystal, went to galway, which was soo cool b/c you got to see the ocean there...which was quite picture-worthy, it was a cross country trip though so i was really tired to say the least. then we went to carlow and saw their college (which is the size of our highschool) but it is the oldest catholic college in ireland, and it has a beautiful cahtedral there too. walked around there that day....lots of cool little shops and stuff......really fun! then we went to a place called Kilkenny where there were lots of cool shops and old ruins to look at, then we went to wexford which is on the eastern side of the country and saw that ocean too, which was also very nice to see. then we went to the dolman...which is an ancient burial ground for some important person.......it's in the middle of nowhere, but interesting none the less. then on our 2nd to last day we went to newgrange which gets it's name from the ancient burial tomb there, which belonged first to the neolithic people. we went inside that and saw the burial areas and the specific carvings that are only in this one place in the whole world. it's here that on the winter solstice the morning sunrise shines thru the roofbox of the tomb and travels down the length of the tomb to illuminate the whole place....very famous event. they did a little simulation of it, which required turning off the lights......which caused it to be incredibly dark. now i thought i knew what complete darkness was like, but i stand corrected. i couldn't even see my own hand right in front of my face! scary, especailly when you think about the 350,000 tons of rock above your head that has been there for 5,000 b.c. and then the dirt and grass and gravel on top of that, which adds god knows how much wieght. but it was soooooo cool! the plane ride home was fun too....though i never thought i would say that a 8 hour flight is fun, but the movies were pretty cool.......the turbulence is another story. so i'll get my camera stuff together in a coulpe of days and put the 80 million pics we took on here, b/c they're awesome and yeah.....talk to who ever reads this soon, i guess. :) |
